Living in two worlds
We’re still
kids!
We’re
maturing!
Middle school is a crazy time!
As sixth graders we’re still kids, but we’re growing up … fast! That’s why it’s like living in two worlds. We’ll have tons of fun as every sixth grader should have. We’ll also be mindful that we’re maturing, and we’ll embrace these changes and challenges.
And it’s not just that we’re growing up, we begin to understand that we really are children of God.
It’s a very special time in life, a time when God is going to do some incredible things in all of us!
Knowing our Identity
We are
children of
God!
The Apostle John wrote these words in the book of First John:
“See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!”
This special time in life is when many kids make important decisions about their faith in Jesus. It becomes their own. We want this to be real for all of us.
Becoming
Remember Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy in C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia series? They’re a great example for us. Were they kids? Yes. But they were much more. They were kings and queens in Narnia!
The same is true for those who understand who God has created us to be. How exciting for us to comprehend that we are more than just kids, we are in fact children of God, and God has incredible plans for our lives.
When we understand the why it changes everything!
As we mature we begin to make connections between our faith in Jesus and the choices we make. We live out our faith in Jesus everyday: at home, at school, everywhere.
It’s why we’re kind to others.
It’s why we follow our classroom policies and rules.
It’s why we do our best in everything we do.
It’s like what the Apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 3:17:
“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.”
